Carnegie Learning Assistment Interface

Process Overview

In the beginning of the year, we conducted surveys, interviews, and Contextual interviews in order to explore how teachers use standards, how we could explain standards in terms of skills, and how teachers understand skills. This research influenced the creation of simple paper prototypes that we then tested with math teachers.

As these paper prototypes matured, we simultaneously developed the infrastructure for the final prototype consisting of a flash interface, java webservices and mySQL database.

As the prototypes and backend reached maturity, we then developed a final prototype and backend using data collected from real students.

Finally we tested the integrated prototype and backend with teachers using think-aloud protocols.
