Technical Constraints

For cost reasons, our final design had to work within the following constraints.

  • The resolution of the screen must be 96x64 pixels.
  • The screen must be a monochrome LCD (i.e. no color or grayscale on the display).
  • No pen-based or touchscreen interface is allowed.
  • The software on the device cannot be upgradable.

Other Constraints

To comply with standardized testing policies, our design had to conform to the following requirements.

  • The device must be allowed on end-of-course exams.
  • The device cannot contain any wireless connectivity capabilities (to prevent communication during a test).
